Q. What are minimum marks required to apply successfully to the U.S universities ?
A. There are no minimums as admission decision is not based upon any cut-off scores. Decision for admission and scholarships are made after total appraisal of school/college marks, SOP, letters of recommendation, application essays, TOEFL iBT/IELTS and SAT/GRE/GMAT scores and any extra curricular credentials you have.
Q. Are scholarships available for all streams and all levels of study like Bachelor, Masters and Ph.D ?
A. Yes, very definitely. The universities have huge endowments and grants which allow them to award liberal scholarships, in many cases up to 100% to international students.
Q. Do U.S universities accept 15 years of education or 3 year degrees from India ?
A. Yes. As of 28th March 2010, WES ( World Education Services ) the independent credential evaluator that all U.S universities rely on for interpretation of foreign degrees and marks, have agreed to accept 3 year degrees from India at par with the 4 year American degree if the institution in India is graded "A" by NAAC ( a wing of UGC ) in India and the student has scored a good first division marks. With many universities it has always been discretionary, on a case-by-case basis. However, some U.S universities may ask for an independent credential evaluation to be done by WES or ECE.
Q. Is taking GMAT/GRE and TOEFL/IELTS tests absolutely necessary for application to Masters degree programs ?
A. Yes, if you seek scholarships. And intend to apply to reputed universities.
Q. Have any recent policies of the U.S government affected admission intake or student visas of Indian students?
A. No. The field of higher education remains unaffected. Some changes are being considered (not finalised) for the H1B (temporary worker) visas. Overall, no negative impact.

Question of the week !
Q. How can I differentiate between an agent and an education consultant ?
A. An agent will always steer you towards a particular country or a few universities/colleges that they are contracted with, to receive commissions from.Obviously such colleges will not offer you scholarships as they have to pay their agent. Also, these agents will not allow you a free choice of universities that your academic credentials will deserve. They will also tell you it is very difficult to go to the countries that they do not work with.
An education consultant will not be working with a set of colleges on commission basis. They will be absolutely flexible about choice of countries and universities. They may charge you a fee and will work for your best possibilities in all respects of optimal selection of universities, choice of country, applications, SOP, LORs, scholarships and financial aid, housing, visas and pre-departure orientation. They will guide and advise you through the complete process.
